Make a memory box. Use an old shoe box and spiff it up with construction paper. Make designs on the paper and use stickers and glitter to make it nice. For something sturdier, you can buy a box from an office supply store or try to find something at a thrift shop that you can work with. Put old letters, dried flowers, small stuffed animals, candles, or other special items from your relationship in the box.
A more unusual Valentines gift would be to have a love compatibility horoscope drawn up for you both, provided it showed your relationship in a positive light! Most lovers would probably cherish time and attention from their loved one so doing something special together is almost more important than the gift.
Make a tape or burn a CD of songs that remind you of them or have special meaning. Design the cover of the tape/CD and make liner notes as well. In the liner notes, you can write about the meaning of each song and how it relates to them and your relationship.
Another romantic gift idea would be a pot of chocolate body paint or a bottle of sensual massage oil. Another idea for those who are into massages would be to buy a massage kit with a heat pack, a book on massage and a massage bars -he or she would have to get the hint!
For those of people in colder weather - buy a bunch of glow in the dark stars and tea light candles. Make up your room with the stars [be sure to charge them] and light the candles. Have a picnic "under the stars". Use cheap champagne glasses, sparkling cider [or wine/champagne], and a box with a sheet draped over it and take-out from your favorite restaurant. Set the mood with your favorite music.
Buy a nice picture frame and put a picture of the two of you in it. You can also make your own frame or spiff up an old used frame from a thrift store or swamp meet. You can either repaint an old frame or use a hot glue gun to glue a few items to make it stand out. Some suggestions for things to glue: rocks, buttons, paperclips, pennies or foreign coins, old fabric, or anything else small enough to fit on a frame.
Romantic weekends away give you both a chance to spend some time together away from the pressures of day-to-day living. Consider taking your lover to somewhere by the sea or somewhere you can go for long country walks. How about a moonlit walk by the beach or a picnic by the river? Or better still, take your partner abroad for a special treat. Cities such as Prague , Paris , Barcelona or Venice are known for their romantic appeal and flights from the UK to Europe have come down in price dramatically. A weekend away can be very special and something you both remember.
If you can find them, buy a box of kiddie valentine's and write something special on each one. You can also make your own using index cards and decorating them with stickers, glitter, colorful drawings or quotes. You can also insert your own special message on these cards. Place the cards all around the house and in their stuff -- books, desk, drawers, CD cases, taped to the closet, in the car, on the fridge -- wherever your significant other is most likely to go and find them.
